Complementary therapies are not designed to replace medical intervention, but to complement them. For those who may suffer from chronic ailments and find medicinal intervention is no longer leading to good symptom control, complementary therapy may be for you. More and more medical personnel are referring their patients to holistic therapies for better symptom management and therapeutic effect. Benefits of complementary therapies include, but are not limited to; improved sleep, increased energy, pain relief/reduction in pain, improved mental health and well-being, strengthened immune system, improved stress management and digestion.
Complementary therapies are a very relaxed and meditative process. Many people fall asleep during their treatment. This does not affect the quality of their treatment and can be considered a compliment to the therapist! There are few contraindications to receiving a treatment (reasons you shouldn't) for example, a temperature within the previous 24 hours, first trimester of pregnancy, under the influence of alcohol or other. mind altering substances, nausea/vomiting/diarrhoea (infective ie tummy bug), acute psychotic episode.
People with cancer, epilepsy, diabetes for example are 'cautions' but not contraindications. It is so, so important to inform your Therapist of all medical information (diagnoses and treatment, medications, operations etc), so you can be treated effectively and safely. There can be healing effects from the treatments as they rebalance your body, mind and soul. Let's say you go for the Flu vaccine- you'll more than likely have a sore arm the following day. It's a little like that. Every client will have their own unique healing effect.
Localised feet infections can be worked around. Infection control is quite important. Please inform your therapist if you have verrucas, athletes foot and even blood borne infections such as HIV, Hep B etc. It will not stop your treatment from going ahead.
